Yes, I’m still alive

September 27th, 2007 Posted in Coffee, Personal

Been a busy week since I was here last - I haven’t been able to get back to the blog. My wife and I are visiting friends in Columbus, Ohio, where it’s currently raining and muggy, two things that we desert dwellers are not all that comfortable with. It’s pretty here though, if you like the color green.

BeerZoniOn Saturday, my wife and I went to the hockey game that we got the free tickets for, and since it was a pre-season game against the Dallas Stars, the game wasn’t all that well attended. It was fun, and of course, my wife got to ride the zamboni. Which makes sense, because we were obviously the ones who didn’t belong. We were sitting there quietly, drinking coffee and cocoa (twelve dollars’ worth!!), just taking in the game amidst a sea of red and black, and the Coyotes dance squad came up and asked Wife if she would like to ride the zamboni during the next break.

Classic response: “Sure!! What’s that mean?”

They came down with the camera crew at the next period break, and told everyone that we were the craziest fans, so my wife had to ham it up for the camera, then they whisked her away.

At the period break they brought her out on the zamboni painted like a Bud Light beer box. Surely her proudest moment.

And, in the end, the Coyotes won. Pretty good night considering the only thing we had to pay for was warm beverages.

Are you going to be in town through the weekend? I’m down in Cincinnati myself. Would be cool to meet another blogger!

Anyone in my husband’s family would kill for a ride on the Zamboni! Actually, I’d kill for a ride on the Zamboni! There’s a bit of a family obsession going on with the whole Zamboni thing… If you ever find Carlos Zamboni on the high scores list of an arcade game, you know my brother in law has played it at some stage!

Green aside, it sounds like a fine trip!

    Cheers

    Wow…JD>

Kudos to Mrs. Drinker. “Riding the Zamboni” as you can imagine, means something entirely different here in Texas…mainly cause we don’t got no ice.

Odd, too because we got a lot of Zambonis for some reason.

    Interesting.

    Check your e-mail. I need a favor.

Cool man, nothing better then a hockey game. Well, I’m sure there is other stuff.

I have friends in Columbus too. Weird stuff.

The zamboni ride sounds cool. Yes, the desert is a bit different that out here in the midwest. It does get a bit humid. But fall, as it is now, is just brilliant. No humidity and a crisp fresh scent in the early morning hours. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
    Cheers

You let your wife ride the what now? Maybe it’s because hockey is near non-existent here but I had no idea what it was. I then googled it and still have no idea. It looks like the things they use to clean out the gutters here. I do hope she enjoyed it, though.

Have fun in the muggy greens for now.

@Jack - Yeah, we’ll still be here through the weekend, but now we’re up in Cleveland. We’ll be heading back down to Columbus tonight, but our days are pretty much booked since we’re on our friend’s schedules from there on. If it looks like I’ll have time open, I’ll shoot you a note.

@LK - don’t know about Houston, but yeah, you have hockey there in Texas…we played the Dallas team the night I went. Sorry about the beating we gave you.

@Nils - The Zamboni is the machine that comes out and re-smooths the ice between hockey periods. It lays down a shallow layer of warm water that freezes on the ice and gives it a smooth surface for the players. It may clean gutters too, but I’m not privy to that information.

If I ever got to ride a zamboni, I’d say “kill me now, I’ve lived a full life”. If you think I’m joking, I live in Canada, so that should explain it all ;-)

  9. Brian Says:

I don’t think I’d be comfortable riding a zamboni without being accompanied by a little, foul-mouthed yellow bird…

that is awesome! what a lucky girl!

  11. Andrea Says:

I would friggin kill to ride the zamboni. You must be crazy, wild fans.

PS. The Zamboni story made me snort - sounds like fun!
