Where in the world?
Okay, here’s an idea that I’ve been chewing on for a while: a full-fledged world map of my readership. I know what you must be saying: “how can he possibly expect to plot the locations of all seven of his readers?” To that I say, not funny.
We’ve all seen those little map sidebar widgets on blogs, and although those are neat, they don’t really show my much other than a collection of giant red pins on a map the size of a postage stamp. Here’s the spin I want to put on it: post in the comments below, sounding off, if you will, just a quick “hi” or whatever you want, but make sure you include the US State or international country you’re in. That’s it. Even if it’s your first or last comment on this site, it will be left in the comments section below, and then highlighted on one of my two handy maps here. It’s okay if there is more than one name per state/country. With any luck, that’s the plan!
I have this broken down by U.S and non-U.S, not to be America-centric, but just because my gut says that there will be more posters stateside than not, and it will be easier to break down this way. If you read a blog from a state or country that isn’t represented, feel free to send them a link so they can post up and represent. Here’s an easier URL to remember: http://www.fourbux.com/where
Below I have the blank table with the fifty U.S. states in it, and am trying to decide if I should come up with a giant table of all the rest of the countries or just add to my table as you folks respond. I’ll admit, I’m partial to the second, only because who knows how often somebody from Andorra will read this blog. In these tables, I’ll also copy your link and screen name and post it next to the corresponding state/country. So as an incentive, not only do you get the benefit of the comment link back (I’m using the DoFollow plug-in), but then you’ll also have a link created in the body of this post.
Here are the caveats: I won’t promote adult sites, hate sites, or sites deemed otherwise abusive. If you have some such site, and you still want to be included in the experiment, what I will do is disable the link from your name in the table, but leave the text. Or, I’ll pull it all together. It is, after all, my experiment.
This is not a contest. There will not be a prize or a giveaway at the end of this - it is solely an experiment. There is no real deadline either, I imagine that there will be a flurry of activity at first, and then taper off as time goes on. I’ll still make additions and highlights on the map as long as I have the blog up and running. I’ve already completed the Arizona, USA area, as an example.
Fire away!

Gotcha Nils. Those smaller countries are going to have to band together to show up on this map, it looks like.
Thanks!

Lol, well, perhaps it would be okay if you just cross-hatched the whole of Europe. We’re all friends these days, it seems.

Hi from Canada (more precisely Montreal, QC)!
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:54 pm
Thanks Aleria! I greened out Canada, but may go back in and do the provinces one at a time, but or right now, you’re it!
August 27th, 2007 at 2:55 pm
Hmm. I have to say this isn’t going gangbusters like I thought it would.
August 27th, 2007 at 10:04 pm
Tried bumping it a bit through Revista.

Thanks Nils. That’s one of the things about these blogs - that it becomes difficult to keep items current if the desire is to keep them at the forefront. On one hand, you want to continue to write, but the knowledge that every post pushes something else farther back into the archives is frustrating.
