Is CafePress the best?

July 21st, 2007 Posted in Design

Okay, everybody’s heard about CafePress, the site that lets you upload our own artwork and people can get it printed on T-shirts, mugs, hats, mousepads, etc. Although I like this model, I’m not sure it’s the best one out there, and have been burned in the past on some of the dark items, like black t-shirts. I was just recently exposed to Zazzle (from the Win an Item from the Cigar Jack Store contest), and it makes me wonder what other online vendors are floating around.

I’d like to start putting some designs together, but I want to go with an online product provider that has good quality items to start with and decent printing/production for the actual application. I mean, if I am considering a FourBux line of swag, I certainly want to make sure it’s the best possible quality. Even if it just for fun.

Anyone have any experience with any others out there? Any suggestions? Anyone have any stores set up already that I could take a look at?

Hey! I use both CafePress and Zazzle. Seems to me that Zazzle’s quality of product is a little bit better, but they’re also more expensive. It’s free to have a large shop on Zazzle (they call it a gallery, though).

Cafepress is definitely easier to put your design on many products. And since it’s been around for a while, it seems easier to promote. If you get a premium shop, it does cost $7/month…but I make many more sales from Cafepress.

    There are my thoughts :)

    Hi Heather,
Do you have a link to any of your stuff that you have on Zazzle or CP?

If the quality is better at Zazzle, I’d like to take a look at what real people have put together.

It’s not like I hope to retire on this stuff, but it’s nice to have something to wear to do a little viral marketing every once and a while.

    Thanks for visiting,

    Cheers.

EDIT: Oh, I just noticed that your username links to your CafePress store.

From what I understand Zazzle does a better job on dark colors. I got a couple T-Shirts from Zazzle and I really do like the quality.

Okay, good to know. The lighter-colored stuff from CafePress seems to come in okay, but the darker items are what I’ve had problems with. If Zazzle can do them better, it may be worth a try.

    Thanks!

Yes, I’ve gotten dark shirts from Zazzle, and they’ve looked great. My Zazzle gallery is http://www.zazzle.com/hdowney*

It also seems like Zazzle is taking suggestions from the contributors there…coming out with new product and making their site a bit easier to use.

I’ve been wondering the same thing! I need to get some shirts done for Brian’s road trip but I still haven’t decided where to have them done. After reading the comments and checking out the site, I think I’ll give Zazzle a try!
